We congratulate Jaime Cortina, alumnus of the Economics Undergraduate Program at ITAM, for his recent appointment as Chief Treasurer of the Banking Department at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), an organization based in Basel, Switzerland, that promotes monetary and financial cooperation worlwide. Jaime has formed part of BIS since 2019, where he was Regional Head of Treasury and Asset Management and Deputy Chief Representative.

Jaime’s trajectory in the banking sector is outstanding. Before joining the BIS, he worked for over twenty years in Mexico’s Central Bank, where he held the position of General Director of Operations and Payment Systems. In this position, he led the administration of international reserves, money operations and the implementation of the Central Bank’s exchange rate policy. He has also held leadership positions like Deputy Chief Financial Officer at Sociedad Hipotecaria Federal and at the Treasury Department of Banco Nacional de México (Banamex).

Congratulations to Jaime Cortina for such an important achievement and we wish him the best of success in his new appointment!
